PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
